Unlocking Inner Healing Through Visceral Manipulation

Body awarness
Have you ever had a deep-seated pain that resisted all the stretching, massage, or meditation? The root of the pain might lie deeper than muscle or bone. Welcome to the realm of visceral manipulation, a gentle healing modality with the hands aimed at the internal organs to facilitate tension release, movement restoration, and healing from within. With the guidance of Tomás Prietto-CFR Instructor at Body Awareness Works, investigate subtle yet powerful approaches that really heal an individual from chronic pain, injuries, and physical stagnation. One of the most impactful techniques we apply is visceral manipulation.

What is Visceral Manipulation?

Visceral manipulation is a manual therapy created by the French osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral. Therapeutically, it involves a very specific, gentle, and subtle manipulation of the internal organs (viscera) of the body so as to induce their normal movement, tone, and functioning. It focuses on the interplay of an organ with other parts of the body, contours different, than the ordinary massage or chiropractic manipulations that treat only muscles and bones.

An organ affected by trauma, inflammation, surgery, or stress may lose its normal mobility, thereby giving rise to chronic pain and some adverse reactions to neighboring tissues, nerves, and musculoskeletal systems in restriction of movement and the formulation of posture imbalances. In these cases, the visceral manipulation intervention releases restrictions such as these to allow healing and self-regulation to proceed on the part of the body.

The Body Awareness Works Approach to Visceral Manipulation

At Body Awareness Works, visceral manipulation is more than just a technique—it’s part of a broader journey into self-discovery and intuitive healing. Having personally navigated decades of chronic nerve pain from sports injuries and surgeries, Tomás Prietto brings not only training from the Barral Institute but also deep empathy and insight to his teaching.

The approach integrates visceral manipulation into a holistic body-learning system. Whether you're a yogi trying to deepen your practice, an athlete aiming to enhance your agility, or someone recovering from injury, this modality can unlock your body’s hidden potential.

Benefits of Visceral Manipulation

The results of visceral manipulation often speak for themselves. Clients report:

  • Relief from chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain

  • Enhanced mobility and athletic performance

  • Reduction in scar tissue and post-surgical adhesions

Unlike conventional treatments that focus on managing symptoms, visceral manipulation targets the root cause—releasing tension in the organ systems that may silently influence your entire body.

Who Can Benefit from Visceral Manipulation?

Visceral manipulation is ideal for:

  • Individuals recovering from surgery or trauma

  • Those dealing with unexplained chronic pain

  • Athletes seeking to improve performance and prevent injury

Experience Visceral Manipulation at Body Awareness Works

Workshops and individual treatment sessions within our environs provide something akin to safe spaces for somatic exploration and healing. Each session is like a walk; guided by your intuition and your practitioner's trained hands, in the inner landscape of your soul. As with everything else that we provide, a visceral cranial manipulation session is not meant to be a treatment or a diagnosis into a condition, but more of an act that assists one in learning how to listen, feel, or move in another way.

FAQ:

1. Does Visceral Manipulation Hurt?

No. Considered a very gentle technique, visceral manipulation. Mostly, one feels deeply relaxed during the procedure, whereas some may feel an actual release of physical energy or emotion.

2. How many sessions do I need?

This depends once more on your goals and on the nature of your condition. Some clients actually feel relief after one session; some others consider between two and four being effective over time.

3. Can it help with digestion problems?

Sure! And because this approach directly concerns the evaluation and restoration of any dysfunctions embracing the stomach and intestines, many clients feel their digestion is greatly improved, with relief from bloating or constipation.

4. Is it safe to do visceral manipulation after surgery?

Yes, once you have been healed enough from surgery. After that, this kind of manipulation can work to reduce adhesions and scar tissue, thereby increasing mobility and comfort.
